The Worm Virus, the New Threat to Your PC!

There is a new virus threat attacking computer systems and networks around the world. The ‘Worm Virus’ (aka Conficker, Kido, Downadup) targets the Windows operating system by searching for a Windows file called ‘service.exe’. It then embeds itself as a part of that code which allows it to burrow deep into the operating systems, even changing the system registry (This is the information store for settings and options for the windows operating system). By doing this, the worm can then trick your PC into running infected program.

The ‘Worm Virus’ has already affected 8.9 million computers around the world by attacking unsecured networks and spreading itself through memory sticks. The virus has caused major damage in countries such as Brazil, China, Russia and India after being first detected in October last year.

The design of this virus makes it very hard to remove once it is active on your machine by making it very difficult to restore your system back to an earlier Restore Point. It also continues to cause havoc by downloading and installing malicious programs that further compromise your system’s security, making you system vulnerable to hackers.

Anti – Virus experts say that the spread of the virus is increasing especially through the use of the USB sticks being taken from one business and then being used and infecting a clients PC or another business network. It’s advised that all computer users ensure that their anti-virus, operating system and firewall programs have the latest updates*.
