We acknowledge our customers contribution and focus on maintaining a sustainable and energy efficient organisation and ensuring that the organisations you partner with also adopt this philosophy and appreciation. There is often a false perception with the IT industry that we do not regard our impact on the environment. We do however believe that Techno Phobia has taken positive steps to reduce our carbon footprint and make a difference.
Over the past 18 months we have implemented the following projects:
Server and Workstation recycle / reuse
Our customers regularly upgrade and replace their equipment. In the past they would dispose of their equipment by sending it to land fill. We now encourage and assist them to break down the components, reuse and recycle through the Moonee Valley City Council.
Water Conservation
Techno Phobia organised for the installation of a water tank to collect rain water from our Racecourse Road office to service the cleaning of our fleet of vehicles.
Reduction in use of motor vehicles
Techno Phobia now performs approximately 85% or our work remotely from our office compared to 5 years ago. This has substantially reduced our use of motor vehicles and in turn petrol, oil and servicing. (And ultimately provides quicker response time to our clients)
Power Usage
In October 2008 we launched Techno Hosting which began a replacement program for our servers in the Pacnet data centre. To date we have reduced our power usage by 70 % and thermal output by over 80%. We also now offer a managed server environment through virtualisation of this infrastructure to existing and new clients which in effect reduces the requirement for additional hardware and power consumption.
