On Friday the 4th of August Pam and Rob take an exciting step into retirement; after 20 years of combined service to Techno Phobia. They have been the backbone of our company, Pam with her strict and unwavering attention to detail and Rob with his calm and reliable approach, fulfilling the roles of Office Manager and Logistic (all round handy man) Manager.. oh and mum and dad to Darren and Peter once the clock ticks over 5.30pm.!
We have asked a couple of questions of Pam and Rob to reflect on their time over the years at Techno, you will love their candid comments!
My first memory of working with Techno was ..?
P: Oh my god what have I got myself in for ! but 12 years later I wouldn’t
have had it any other way. No parents could be more proud than Rob and I
are of what our boys have achieved.
R: A fight between Darren and Peter, also eating a pastie and leaving the
crust.. then a staff member ate it for his lunch!.
Share an enjoyable customer experience
P: The excuses I hear for why customers cannot pay their bills. I have heard
everything from the bank man is on holidays to we have a new account
system and don’t know how to pay the bills!
R: I once dropped off equipment to a customer’s office and they were
reluctant to give me their cheque as payment, they did not think I was
trustworthy – they had to call Peter to check if he knew me !
What has been the biggest challenge for you working at Techno?
P&R: Being a neutral party between Darren and Peter – never taking sides
and remembering to keep business and family separate.
What are you now looking forward too ..?
P: Free Time. To be able to do what I want, when I want .. remember I have
worked full time for 32 years! Oh, I almost forgot, a 7 week overseas holiday.
R: To do what I want, when I want …. If Pam lets me!
"On the first Monday morning of retirement I am going to …"
P: Get up and be ready for the phone calls!! I am actually already booked in
for babysitting from 7.30AM
R: Sleep in.. oh and be eligible for the Seniors Card!
While Pam and Rob can never truly be replaced we welcome Louise and
Wayne to their new roles – we are sure they are ready to step up and take
the mantle. We wish Pam and Rob a wonderful holiday and fulfilling a relaxing
retirement.

LETHAL VIRUS NOW MOBILE
Mobile phones are breeding grounds for colds, flu, the gastro virus, E. coli and potentially fatal skin infections, experts say.
Mobile phones are breeding grounds for colds, flu, the gastro virus, E. coli and potentially fatal skin infections, experts say.
The gastroenteritis virus can last a month on the surface of a phone, according to leading microbiologist Dr Charles Gerba.
“In the modern world, hygiene has become a second thought, and people haven’t really brought it into the workplace yet.”he said.
Mobile phones, especially those owned by teenagers, can carry the MRSA skin infection, a deadly virus that kills tens of thousands every year, he said. Studies showed teenagers were more likely to share phones, which sparked the spread of skin infections, he said.
‘It’s about who touches your phone,” the man dubbed Dr Germ said. “If your sharing your phone and then put it up to your mouth, you are at risk of exposing yourself to these viruses.
“A virus can move through an office in two to four hours. From what we’ve looked at, offices are pretty typical in Australia. The dirtiest surfaces are desktops and phones.
“There are 400 times more bacteria on desktops and phones than toilet seats.”
Dr Gerba said the filthiest offices belong to school teachers, bankers and accountants; the cleanest belong to lawyers and doctors, but minimising shared contact with phones could conquer the risk.
Dr Gerba, of Arizon University, is touring nationally as a paid guest of White King disinfectant.

Techno is Now in Asia
As many of you will know Techno Phobia has established a presence in Manila, Philippines. This expansion into Asia has been on our radar for many years, as a long term strategic decision. We took the leap in August 2011, and as our 1st year anniversary approaches we are encouraged by the progress we have made and opportunities we see for the future.
Last year’s inaugural customer survey gave us invaluable insight into the requirements of our customers and how best Techno Phobia can assist to enhance the growth of your business. The overwhelming themes identified were the need for extended trading hours and quicker response times to service calls. The combined forces of our Melbourne and Manila technical team can deliver on this demand.
Manila is a vibrant Asian city of more than 20 million people; thriving with cultural diversity and prosperity. Our office, managed by Peter Hammon, is located within Fort Bonifacio a technology hub, with an ever expanding global footprint. Our presence also enables on-site strategic support of our existing Australian clients who both operate and trade within the Asian region. We are excited to be able to provide these clients with immediate and specialised support.
While our primary aim of expanding to the Philippines was to support our existing Australian customers who trade within Asia, it has quickly become apparent there is a need for our unique services for Philippino companies. In the past few months we have been engaged by a number of locally based companies, with whom we provide consultancy, infrastructure design, technical support and a recent addition to our suite of services; telecommunications.
Since commencing business in Asia we have been approached by many of our existing clients here in Australia who wish to enter the Asian market. With the business partners, alliances and contacts we have now established, we would be very happy to discuss this opportunity with you for your business.
